Christopher Walken and Robert De Niro were PERFECT on their roles. I can’t
count how many times i cried during this movie. Mostly during the Russian
Roulette scenes. Besides their acting, can we talk about how amazingly
    handsome they look?? 😉

John Cazale died from lung cancer soon after his scenes were filmed. They
were filmed first because of his illness. When he opens the shirt to be
shot, I think of the cancer beneath. So sad.

Forgot to add that part of this scene is character development illustrating
the tough no-nonsense nature of the part played by DeNiro here. As a
hard-nosed realist, we see “Mike” unyielding to faults in others as
compared to Walken’s character who softens up and gives his boots to
Cazales. Later, everyone but “Mike” suffers some form of psychological
breakdown, illustrating their weaknesses as opposed to “Mike” who remains
    “solid”, anchoring the plot.

Because he looks like a loser. He plays the part perfectly. Hollywood is
excellent at finding people who look the part. I would be cast as a village
    idiot or bum.

The governments of the world need to get behind the Mikes of the world, who
know how and when to say no very quickly. Without them, there is nothing to
stop the Stans of the world doing what they want – now even to the point of
believing it’s normal and acceptable – thus stirring up arguments and
wrecking everything for everyone in the process. The Stans must be forced
to understand and obey the Hierarchy of Disagreement. John Cazale died from
lung cancer because he didn’t obey This is This.

I loved how in this movie all the Western Pennsylvanians sounded like dudes
    from Queens.

ahhhh my people (pittsburgh) such great performances. back when movies had

    plots…shame.

Mike is pretty much the man. Carry your weight or screw off. Liberal
Society thinks much the same way, provide for me because “I deserve the
free ride.” Mike actually packs his gear and is strait for the hunt. In
life you carry your own weight and take responsibility. You are owed
nothing- you work and earn it. If you want it, it is there because you
decide – what you want when you want. You think for yourself and are
independent- strong. Stanley is the loser in life who goes along with the
herd and then expects others to pick up his slack for his lack of being a
man and carrying his weight. Favorite part in this movie is when Mike can
shoot the deer, but doesn’t. His choice / his way / his call in the moment
for his reasons. It takes a extremely strong Man to do that- not your
ordinary smuck like Stanley that hunts it to impress his friends or feed
the ego. Stanley gets it, but doesn’t like being shown for the idiot he
has always been- mooching off other people his whole life and not taking
anything half way serious. The pistol he carries, he is a coward at heart-
and can’t even treat a gun with respect. Great film on Society- then and
    now.

Oh My God! He said FAGGOT! I wonder if that would be written into a
screenplay today. Love this movie. takes me back to a simpler time in life.
where a guy worked his eight hours, had a few beers with the boys and
called it a day and did not give a shit about calling his friend a faggot.
