I loved this video! I grew up on deer hunting tales from the U.P. My Dad
and his five brothers grew up in Ironwood in the 1920’s and 1930’s. WWII
took them all away from up there and they never went back. I do have some
land I inherited up there and If I don’t get off my butt and make plans to
get up there and hunt I guess I’ll never have the Great Northwoods deer
experience! Grandpa worked as a fireman on the Chicago Northwestern
Railroad and the train would stop and let him and his boys off for a week
or so to hunt. Heard stories of blizzards. Dad once got a buck in some
driving snow and went to camp to get help. It was really coming down when
he got there and the decision was made to hold off till the next day. Two
days later and five more feet of snow on the ground they snowshoe to where
Dad shot the buck. Things looked a little different but he thought he was
in the right place. They probed and probed but never located the body. All
that winter experience served him well during the Battle of the Bulge!

Benny – great job putting this video together man this is awesome! I really
liked how you filmed some scenes from inside the camp, just hangin out with
the guys. That’s one of my favorite parts of deer camp. We are in New
Hampshire and are also big deer hunters, though we don’t have anywhere near
the deer population you guys do. I think I may have seen 15 deer this
entire season, it was a tough year. Hunting whitetails in the northeast is
a challenge, as it is where you are aswell! I enjoy your videos and hope
they keep coming year in year out. Really cool to see guys so devoted to
keeping some of deer huntings best traditions alive! Take care, JB

That buck is illegal. It has to have at least 3 points

I really enjoyed your video and thank you for posting. I really miss the
UP; was stationed up there from 84 to 91 and enjoyed the outdoors
tremendously. Got to go back during the summer of 2007 but hope one day to
return for the ice fishing and deer & bear hunting. Time will tell…

awesome. I’m guessing this hunt was during the horrible snowstorm? I live
in Pennsylvania but travel to the UP of Michigan to hunt. There is nothing
better than having hundreds of square miles to roam all by yourself! We
didn’t have a successful year. we took 3 deer with 7 guys, 2 were
antlerless with a bow. the snowstorm triggered early migration.

Nice video. Glad the culture is still alive. Suggestion……..I had just
about the same problem at the end of camp. We ran the truck up and down the
track several times and packed the snow down. Unloaded everything out of
the trailer and ferried the gear to the road with the ATV. Took a little
extra time, but not 12 hours…….
Love the drive along US 2!
